McConnell & Saldumbide
Met Gala register. Heritage theatre. One evening built to the standard of a major red-carpet commission.
01 The Challenge
Three deliverables. One standard across all of them. McConnell & Saldumbide commissioned a pre-event promotional campaign, a purpose-driven opening film, and full cinematic event coverage for a charity fundraiser staged at the Empire Theatre. Each piece had to hold the same visual register as the others. Nothing could look like event documentation.
02 The Approach
Visual language was established before a single frame was shot. The moodboard set the register and every deliverable was held to it. 'Voices in the Theatre' was filmed inside the venue in advance: an emotional anchor that opened the evening with intention rather than obligation. On the night, two-camera coverage operated from award show methodology. Architectural detail, movement, atmosphere, and the moments between moments. The edit treated the event as a cinematic subject.
03 The Outcome
Promotional content positioned the evening correctly before doors opened. The opening film set the tone from the first frame. The event recap stands as a permanent record of the commission at the level it was built. The evening raised significant funds for Act With Kids Australia.
